At the center of the film City of God is a drug-riddled Brazilian neighborhood. The story follows how different residents react to the violence and drug abuse issues surrounding them. The film is a raw portrayal of what desperate people do to survive and will cause you to think about what you would do in such a grueling situation. This one is great for those who love to take a bite out of a movie with questionable ethics – it makes you think deeply about your own choices and priorities as you watch these characters make noble (and not-so-noble) choices.

08. Pen15
Drew's Pick:
PEN15 is a TV show that feels like a magnifying glass examining all of our most deliciously awkward middle school years! Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle created and star in the hysterical comedy, and, despite being grown women, play thirteen-year-old outcasts to a cast of actual thirteen-year-olds with jaw-dropping chuckle-inducing results.
You’ll cringe at the situations the characters get tangled up in, but relate hardcore to the silly, serious and strange moments of preteen life depicted on screen. Drew identifies with the colorful PEN15 characters and thinks its storylines capture the beauty and goofiness in the evolution of friendship and finding our true selves.
